Disney on Ice

We went to go see Disney on Ice this past Saturday. B and I enjoyed it. The smallest one mostly enjoyed it. But, my oldest, the 7 year old whiner, would have none of it. Oh dear. If he's starting adolescence so soon, we're going to be in big trouble. He really wanted to buy something...anything...as long as I paid for it and he got it. Heh. Yep, sounds familiar, but I would have none of it.

Later, B told him that she only paid $14 for the McDonald's meal for all of them, but the Disney snow cone in a glowing cup he begged for was $15. She said he had the spark of recognition in his eyes. I hope this bodes well. If not, it's going to be a looooooong teenage-hood.

I'm not...

I'm not dead.

Honest.

Time Machine

My oldest son confiscated an empty box and immediately cried, "I'm going to make a time machine!"

I knew our Calvin and Hobbes homeschooling was paying off. I asked him if my polls were going down, and he got the reference. It's so hard to rear children correctly, but I think we're on the right track. :)

Eyebrows

I'm still sick, so I was confused when, last night, my wife was moving her eyebrows suggestively. "Tonight?!" I asked incredulously. With a frown, she replied, "No. I have new eyeglasses. See?"

Man, I'm so married.

Sick

My fall cold finally hit. I feel as though there's a hippo shoved up my sinuses. I stayed indoors throughout a beautiful mid-70 degrees weekend, and now I'm still stuck indoors after the cold front hit. Bleh.

In other news, my youngest keeps asking me who are boys and girls and then if I have a pee-pee. At home, it's not a big deal, but I just hope he doesn't decide to ask me in a store. That could be quite embarrassing.

Long weekend

This weekend was our Disaster Recovery test weekend at work. The good news is that I didn't have to go to New Jersey, but the bad news is that I worked most of the weekend anyway. The network part had a few kinks, but we got it all worked out in a timely manner. I can't say the same for some of the backup restores, though. It was a VERY long weekend for those guys.

Halloween trick-or-treating went nicely. The kids loved going out and getting loot. Folks were friendly and courteous. I did see the hunchback smoking man (in his 40's?) from the next street over walk up to a house that had just a bowl of candy out front, pull out a sack, and start loading up. Very odd. Other than that, things went smoothly, and we had a blast.

Oh, the gumbo I made was awesome!

Toot, Not the Horn

A few days ago, my youngest son passes gas in the van. My wife says, “What do you say?” To which my three year-old replies, “I like tooting in the car….?”

I’m not sure that was the reply she was looking for.

Shed Options

I took Monday off since the kids were off for the fake holiday we call Columbus Day. We went to Denny’s for lunch (love the Grand Slam!) then to the greatest entertainment park – Home Depot – to pick up some stuff and allow the kids to stretch their legs.

On the way out, my wife and I were looking at the sheds for sale outside of Home Depot. I’ll probably buy one some day to put in the back yard to store…stuff. Anyway, my wife noticed that the base price was $1,100 but it went up to $1,500 with options. With a snide look, she reached over to press the ‘doorbell’ on the 8’x8’ shed while snickering, “Options? Like this…?” I said, “STOP!” right before she pressed it. “That calls the sales guy out here.”

Then, we both realized what happened. She actually thought the sales call button was a doorbell option for the 8 foot by 8 foot shed! We cracked up laughing like lunatics right there on the sidewalk outside of Home Depot.

BSA Museum

Last Sunday, I took my oldest, now a Tiger Scout, to the Boy Scout of America's national museum in Irving. I didn't even know that was there. I knew that the BSA HQ was in Irving but not their museum.

It's pretty neat. There's a big collection of Norman Rockwell paintings there. They hired him back in the day to paint yearly pictures for the Scouts. He was a very good painter.

There were a lot of hands-on exhibits for the boys to play like derby racing, laser gun shooting, computer exhibits, etc. I think J got a big kick out it.
